| The
original silver coin was from the period of the Golden Age of Pericles,
Socrates, and Sophocles. Its value was the average Greek workers daily
salary, worth enough to feed a family. There are over 1000 styles of
the Athena and Owl Tetradrachm from the 6th to the 1st century BC.
Original ancient silver Athena and Owl coins can cost between $300 and
$1000 US dollars. The obverse side of the coin depicts the Head of Athena, the goddess of wisdom, wearing a crested helmet ornamented with three olive-leaves. The reverse side shows Athena's companion, an owl, the symbol of Athens, the first three letters of the city-state of Athens, an olive twig, and a crescent moon. This is an accurate copy of one particular antique Greek Athena-and-Owl tetradrachm that is in my possession. The copy is cast in a lead-free white metal alloy. On the narrow side the replica says "COPY" as required by US law. |
