| The
ZipLight Battery Pack is a small flashlight accessory that
replaces the
fuel tank in most Zippo lighters, except the Slim Line series. When you
flip the Zippo open, the flashlight comes automatically on and will shut
off when you close the Zippo. Zippo introduced the ZipLight Battery Pack in 1995. Zippo also sold Zippo lighters that came with the ZipLight Battery Pack installed and called that combination a "ZipLight." There are two versions of the ZipLight Battery Pack. The earlier Generation I model features a reflector with a knurled edge, a larger and curved red off-switch and an additional button under the red switch. The later Generation II ZipLight Battery Pack lacks this second button. If a Generation II ZipLight Battery Pack is stored outside of a Zippo casing, a supplied plastic strip has to be inserted into the red switch. Both types of ZipLight Battery Pack are powered by two 1.5 Volt batteries, which are very similar in size to, but slightly shorter than AAAA batteries. Zippo does not supply the proper type battery anymore. The incandescent bulb will eventually burn out. The ZipLight Battery Pack was commonly available in a blister pack just like this one until production was discontinued in 2002. ![]() The name ZipLight Battery Pack is in my opinion somewhat misleading, since the unit is not just a battery holder, but it is the complete flashlight assembly. I prefer referring to the ZipLight Battery Pack as ZipLight Insert, because this description more closely fits the facts. |
