1/2 inch posts are rarely needed. 3/8 inch works generally well for tie tacks and pins that are worn on thicker clothes like coats. 1/4 inch works well for thin cloths and lapels.

| There are two types of clutches. The ball clutch works for all three post sizes. However, you may prefer the flat butterfly clutch on the 1/4 inch pin. |
