ZIPLIGHT SERVICE KIT
STATUS: AVAILABLE

ziplight zip light ziplite zip lite batteries

The Service Kit for original ZipLights contains one original, unused (tested and working) original ZipLight replacement bulb and two sets of brand new high quality alkaline replacement batteries.

The Generation I ZipLight requires a bulb with a white base, the Generation II ZipLight requires a bulb with a grey base. When you order a ZipLight Service Kit, please specify if this kit is for a Generation I or Generation II ZipLight.

INSTALLATION

1. With a case opener or  a preferably dull knife blade, carefully pry open the ZipLight's casing along its seams.  Be prepared for a few springloaded parts to      go airborne. See the second picture below for the springloaded components (metal toggle lever and pin, red plastic spring retainer, spring). I suggest you        cup your hand over teh ZipLight while pulling the two halves of the casing apart. I am not responsible if you shoot your or anybody else's eye out!

2. Always clean any corrosion caused by leaky batteries. All metal contacts must be clean. You can remove all contacts from the case  carefully with small pliers. Once you have cleaned the contacts, reinstall them.

3. Install the batteries as shown below.

Note the red markings, which denote "+" on the batteries. Pry out the old batteries and install the new batteries with the proper polarity as indicated by the red marking.

Generation I ZipLights operate on 3 Volt. The two 1.5 Volt alkaline batteries are connected in series.
Note the red markings, which denote "+" on the batteries. Pry out the old batteries. Install the new batteries with the proper polarity as indicated by the red markings. The batteries must make contact with the brass contact on which they rest.

Generation II ZipLights operate on 1.5 Volt. The two 1.5 Volt alkaline batteries are connected parallel.
Why did Zippo switch from a 3 Volt power source to a 1.5 V power source? The answer is increased battery life. This comes however at the cost of brightness. I suggest you stick with Service Kits if you want to keep your ZipLight in original condition. If you want to improve effciency and battery life, I suggest you go with the LED and lithium battery conversion option.
